Two folks playing folk

The Trains Fair

The Trains Fair – English

Who we are

Chiara and Francesco, raised on Pentangle, Dylan, Baez, and Simon & Garfunkel. Two souls, one music: voices, guitars, and stories from international folk to Italian singer-songwriter.

The style is intimate, acoustic, narrative, with attention to lyrics and voices.

Chiara’s clear, crystalline, and luminescent voice blends with that of Francesco Moncalvo in a wonderful blend of sounds, chasing each other in choruses, calls and responses, unisons and counterpoints, drawing on the English, Scottish, and American folk repertoire, with some forays into popular music and Italian singer-songwriter music.

But, in addition to covers, Chiara and Francesco are also building a repertoire of original songs, the fruit of their sensitivity and their vast musical culture.

International folk, Italian tradition, and civic engagement blended by two young voices who have chosen the challenging path of authenticity and technical study.

Biography

When they met they formed a guitar and vocal duo with the evocative name of I Ferrovieri, which later changed to the current one.

Repertoire

The duo favors an acoustic setting, with guitars and vocals in harmonious dialogue and counterpoint. Their repertoire ranges from English, Scottish, and American folk to Italian folk and singer-songwriter pieces.

A round trip between Europe and America: from Geordie to the ancient A Soloin , from The Maid on the Shore to The Boxer , from Dylan and Baez ( It ain’t me, babe and I Shall Be Released ) to Joan Baez alone and desperate ( Diamonds and Rust ).

Then Sixteen Tons , Hunting Song by Pentangle fused with the Italian folk dance La rotta , Light Flight , up to Strade Parallele (Aria Siciliana) by Giuni Russo and Battiato and a wide selection of songs by Fabrizio de Andrè.

Productions

Chiara and Francesco have self-produced a little gem on CD entitled Early Demos in which they alternate two songs from the folk revival tradition with two original songs of their own compositions.
